The Arabic letter ن (pronounced “noon”), is the 14th letter of the Arabic alphabet and the equivalent to the Roman letter N. The Islamic State, formerly known as ISIS, had marked homes and businesses owned by Christians with this letter painted in red, because ن stands for Nasara or Nazarenes, a pejorative Arabic word for Christians. As the forefront of our movement and the cover of our album, we use it as a mark of strength.
Noon is also the mid day sun, shining at its brightest. Like the testimony of those who have fallen under oppression, they are also a light to our world, giving us a candle to follow in a time of darkness. Noon is a reminder that even in the toughest of times, the sun illuminates all things.
